This page details my Lego NASA Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle – LRV build. The Lego NASA Apollo Lunar Rover kit arrived on 19th December 2024 and took two days to complete between 04/01/2025 and 05/01/2025.

The Lego item number is 42182 and the kit consists of 1913 pieces. For details of the other Lego kits that I have completed so far see the main Lego Collection page of this website.

Build Details

Weighing in at 1913 pieces this is not a large set at all especially when compared to the Lego Artemis Space launch System kit that I built in May 2024, and which weighs in at a whopping 3601 pieces. Although the build was an enjoyable experience, there were times when I was not exactly sure which part of the Rover I was building which can hinder your understanding somewhat and some of the illustrations in the accompanying booklet were at times a little unclear.

There are four plaques that come with the finished model, one for the rover and three for the equipment sets which you can display alongside the completed model in a similar fashion to the recent Concorde, Space Shuttle Discovery or Artemis Lego kits.

The completed kit can be displayed with the Rover wheels unfolded and the three scientific experiments attached to the vehicle or with the Rover folder and the experiments placed on a mount along with their respective plaques.

The finished model is a superb addition to my collection and sits well with the Saturn V and Lunar Lander kits that I have built previously.

I’m not sure how Lego can go any further with the Apollo Program now, but I hope that they do. An official Launch tower for the now retired Saturn V rocket would be my preference.
